We made it to Italy and Greece

With all the waiting we made into Italy via Canada and it was surprisingly easy. We brought our tests to the airport in Reno and no one asked for anything else till we got to Italy. The flights we packed as normal and all we did is show the papers that said we have gotten the shots and off we went.

Off to our favorite place in Italy we went, after a year of not being there the waiters remembered us and were so happy to see us. The tension we felt in the upcoming weeks and during the flight took a day or two to go away. We spent a lot time at the restaurant they would hold our table for us,I had asked for green olives one night and they didn’t have any. The waiter when and got some from the store for me. Dawn couldn’t pick off the menu what she wanted for desert so they loaded everything on a tray and brought it out to us to pick.

After the days of walking around and seeing so many tents offering Covid tests or free shots we were feeling like we could come back for a longer stay. Hint…Hint…

Now off to Athens Greece.

From the time we got to Italy to the time we left the rules changed to get into Greece all we needed as Americans was our vac cards so that was a lot off our minds. I did get transportation from the airport to the B&B we were staying at ( I would have never found it ). Once we got our bearing on where in town we were it was easy to find our ways around.

Now after being in Italy for a week I forgot how my cheaper Athens is when it comes to food and drinks. The one thing bad is there are so many Americans in Athens compared to Rome and so many of us just ruin it for everyone. We did find a nice place’s to plant out butts and people watch and since we were only here once before we did so much walking.

The photo above is the waiter that was serving us the last 3 days he was so friendly and so helpful picking wine. I would like to thank him again for making it a wonderful trip.

As for the trip home that will come in another post…

So tomorrow starts a trip…

Last day of work before a trip overseas, I have been waiting 2 years for this after going a least once a year before the Covid. We are hoping to get to Italy and Greece but with restrictions changing by the min I am so scared we will get stuck at some border. We have a stop in Canada and that is going to be a first, let’s see how it go’s.

New Years In Mexico

For 3 years now we have been trying to get down to Mexico with some friends to celebrate Sandy’s birthday and new years. This time we got on a plane and flew down here with only a few delays in our flights, most of the time they just cancel it at the last minute

San Carlos, Mexico

This was my first time in this part of Mexico and I never drove over the border before. We rented and B & B with a pool and separate Villas and for a 4 day trip its not a bad place. Some of the people I am just meeting for the first time and I am so bad with names. But they are a fun bunch before and after we are all drunk.

The area is not as “green” as Mexico I am used to and the weather was a tad bit chilly but the town is not so packed with people so that’s a good thing. San Carlos or it seems this part is broken up in sections, stores then some road and then some house’s so It’s not like Cancun where you can just walk from pub to hotel. The two restaurants we did eat were right on the water and very nice. The food was okay, better than American food but just okay for Mexico.

We did get to take a boat ride and see some dolphins in the wild, very had to get a picture at just the right moment. But it was fun and watching the birds dive for fish with a glass of wine can’t be all bad “rite”?

What is depression…

I have never depressed in my life that I can remember, unless you count a teenage breakup. So I might be asking stupid questions.Writing this more for myself then anything else.

Whet on vacation with the wife after she had been gone for 3 weeks and it was a hard time at home.My daughter had broken her foot so it was a busy 3 weeks while she was gone dealing with the daughter and grandson and dog.

We go on vacation to Fiji and she has to go to the Philippians from Fiji for work. I understand this saved her her 20 hours flight time but we had never flown home from vacation alone before. I left the day before.

I started missing her that day because I knew she would be gone for 3 more weeks. Now i’m home and I don’t want to deal with the normal everyday things that need to get done.I’m drinking more (that could be the reason for this).

I don’t want to post in public how much I miss her because that might her feel bad,but I want to talk to someone to talk about it with.

Last Vacation of the Year (Fiji)

The vacation started with a drive from Reno to San Francisco,we didn’t need to be there till 10 pm at night for our flight so it was a nice easy drive,no need to rush. Rented a car for the one way trip and ended up getting a Jeep, very nice ride and I had never driven one before.

Rental Jeep

The flight was a little over 10 hours and before we boarded we had a few glass’s of wine and a great meat and cheese platter. Also I picked up some NyQuil tablets with the intention of sleeping on the flight. And boy did I sleep, wife said I was out for like 5 hours. Only the 2nd time I slept on a plane.

After the flight

Customs wasn’t to long it took a while for the luggage to come out and the area they have to collect it was packed with people at 4:45 am local time.We had arranged transportation from the airport to The View Villa’s on the coral coast of the island.I didn’t know that the villas were 92 km’s away, the driver was taking the coastal road and there were a “few” villages we would pass through. This would have a slow down to 30 km per hour or less for the speed bumps and by villages I mean shacks on the side of the road.

View from our room

After the hour and a half tip on the van from the airport we got to villas and they have so exceeded my expectations. The View Fiji The view you get from the villa’s is awesome there are only 4 villa’s at the resort,so you only have less people to deal with. When we got here there was only one other couple here. The villa we got has the private pool and the outdoor shower (don’t know why we don’t do this more in the US) I loved the outdoor shower.

Private pool

This was the vacation I was looking for, we had only one trip planned to a private island but the rest of the week was us doing nothing.

Some of the views from the beach on the south coast.

Found out the day we were leaving the resort is closing for good. The owner is going to turn it into his home and retire. Its to bad it was a wonderful place and the staff he had could not have been nicer.

I will have to visit Fiji again…
