Italy vacation dead (Puerto vallarta)

So with the virus that is ragging the planet our plans for a family vacation in Italy soon went to hell. So with that said avoid Orvago when booking any travel. At the last moment we decided that Mexico was a good option since everyone had the days off all ready.

Sierra mountains

The trip started of with a trip from Reno to San Fran via RT80 and a 7200 foot mountain rage and snow. It was slow going but we made it and had a overnight in San Fran so no rush,We were taking the kids back to Puerto Vallarta since they were 16 for the boys and 13 for my daughter. It’s a big difference taking them back 17 years later, the town has grown and so have the kids.

2020

This time we stayed at a “resort” the locals used to get away from time to time. It seemed they were renovating when we got there and the rooms ( 2 bedroom flats ) we real close to the pool and ocean but last on the list to be updated. They only had AC in the bedrooms and the power outlets were hanging out of the wall in some place’s. They had 2 pools one a little colder then the other and lots of kids playing in both.

Donta Pool

We did get to meet some new friends.

All in all it was nice to get out of town for a while and I had a lot of people worried about us getting back into the US, there were no people at the airports and the plane was not full coming back. When I saw what was going on here I was wondering why I left Mexico.

WordPress Renew Expensive…

Well, it’s that time of the year again to start renewing the hosting/publishing of my sites on WordPress.com. Now when I started this I had all the sites on GoDaddy and was paying about $120USD a year. Now that came with unlimited sites and email at no cost. Now with just 4 sites at the “personal plan” on Word Press, it’s $4.00 a month per site with no real email to speak of. That works out to be $192.USD a year. With any “experiment” in hosting, I tried the “premium” accounts on Word Press because after opening the account they gave you a “discount” for the upgrades for the rest of the year, Bad idea on my part. Now just realizing what I did when I did the comparison.

Now to get the email ( send and receive ) from the domain I use Microsoft Exchange, with 2 email addresses it’s $100.USD a year. To make it more complicated most of the domains are registered at Google Domains for the free “privacy protection”. So I’m having to deal with DNS and domain manual info input in 3 different hosting services ( and I wonder why I have a headache ).

Lets list things I like about Word press hosting

I can get to the websites from anywhere in the world I might be visiting and they load fast

Ease of use

They deal with all the updating

Now what about Godaddy hosting

Not as easy to get to the service from anywhere

Pain in the ass system to deal with finding what you need

Updating my own software ( not a problem )

What I like about Google Domains

Ease of use

Cost

privacy protection

I will be keeping the Microsoft Exchange anyway

Great service

So I am rethinking Word Press and is it worth the cost…

New Years In Mexico

For 3 years now we have been trying to get down to Mexico with some friends to celebrate Sandy’s birthday and new years. This time we got on a plane and flew down here with only a few delays in our flights, most of the time they just cancel it at the last minute

San Carlos, Mexico

This was my first time in this part of Mexico and I never drove over the border before. We rented and B & B with a pool and separate Villas and for a 4 day trip its not a bad place. Some of the people I am just meeting for the first time and I am so bad with names. But they are a fun bunch before and after we are all drunk.

The area is not as “green” as Mexico I am used to and the weather was a tad bit chilly but the town is not so packed with people so that’s a good thing. San Carlos or it seems this part is broken up in sections, stores then some road and then some house’s so It’s not like Cancun where you can just walk from pub to hotel. The two restaurants we did eat were right on the water and very nice. The food was okay, better than American food but just okay for Mexico.

View from our dock

We did get to take a boat ride and see some dolphins in the wild, very had to get a picture at just the right moment. But it was fun and watching the birds dive for fish with a glass of wine can’t be all bad “rite”?
