Flight Sim 2020

Microsoft Flight Sim has come out and I got the deluxe package, now will my computer run it is the question. The computer I built 3 years ago was built to last meaning I built it to play games at max levels and should run anything I put into it.Now that I think about it when Flight Sim X came out in 2009 the system I was running only ran it so well, as I got better and better computers I was able to turn it up to full.

I have checked and it seems to be hit and miss with the new 2020 Sim, some people are not having problems. And I checked the CPU and GPU and it’s only running at ( CPU 70%) and (GPU 80%) it just makes the fans on the computer run loud.

I checked to see the price on a video card upgrade from the Nvidia 1060 6gb card I have to the 1080 card 8gb and I’m looking at $399. But there is hope the new Nvidia 3080 cards should be out soon and the price has been leaked at $1499. and that might put it out of my price range.

On the way to Vegas

Update since I started this post a new patch has come out that has reduced the amount of CPU and GPU needed to play the game. Now with the CPU that i am using (Intel i7 7700) should be able to handle this game it’s just the video card that needs a update.

I will be updating this from time to time and if you need some help with this email me at eric@ericrberry.com and I can let you know how to optimise your system to play it.

WordPress Renew Expensive…

Well, it’s that time of the year again to start renewing the hosting/publishing of my sites on WordPress.com. Now when I started this I had all the sites on GoDaddy and was paying about $120USD a year. Now that came with unlimited sites and email at no cost. Now with just 4 sites at the “personal plan” on Word Press, it’s $4.00 a month per site with no real email to speak of. That works out to be $192.USD a year. With any “experiment” in hosting, I tried the “premium” accounts on Word Press because after opening the account they gave you a “discount” for the upgrades for the rest of the year, Bad idea on my part. Now just realizing what I did when I did the comparison.

Now to get the email ( send and receive ) from the domain I use Microsoft Exchange, with 2 email addresses it’s $100.USD a year. To make it more complicated most of the domains are registered at Google Domains for the free “privacy protection”. So I’m having to deal with DNS and domain manual info input in 3 different hosting services ( and I wonder why I have a headache ).

Lets list things I like about Word press hosting

I can get to the websites from anywhere in the world I might be visiting and they load fast

Ease of use

They deal with all the updating

Now what about Godaddy hosting

Not as easy to get to the service from anywhere

Pain in the ass system to deal with finding what you need

Updating my own software ( not a problem )

What I like about Google Domains

Ease of use

Cost

privacy protection

I will be keeping the Microsoft Exchange anyway

Great service

So I am rethinking Word Press and is it worth the cost…

More email hosting issues

Moved most some of my sites back to GoDaddy , not sure why when other post’s said I was trying to move away from GoDaddy. I did find out that Microsoft Exchange / email problem went away when I just use Godaddy as a DNS server.

One of the sites that was setup for email worked great on WordPress using exchange I moved the site back to GoDaddy and I couldn’t get Outlook the program to work. I used a “help me fix it” program from Microsoft and it helped a little. Soon as I moved the site back to WordPress and just used GoDaddy to point it everything started working again.

I should have just left well enough alone and stayed with WordPress.

Windows Fall Update is here

Well it’s here and it’s not much different from the preview I was running on a laptop and an older desktop. There are some new apps that will help higher end computers with AR and VR, one of the updates I was looking forward to was the one drive files on demand.

That app/service is not working as Microsoft intended as of just yet, seems the option is on some of the installs. If not you have to download the “one drive” newest program and run it to even see the option for files on demand. Even then not all the folders are showing up correctly . I hope they fix this soon .

It has slowed the system a bit , have not tried it on the gaming computer. I will try “gaming” this weekend and report back.

Waiting on the fall update

Been waiting for the Windows 10 fall creators update for a month or so , in the preview program it should be out by now. I have loaded the latest preview a number of times and all it keeps doing is crashing the computer ( 16251 iso ) . Its to the point where I don’t want to load it because I don’t think it will move on to the next update with out freezing up.

Just for the hell of it I loaded Windows S on the system ( you need Pro to try it ) and It would have been great if it was a “lite” version of windows but its not . It just windows Pro without anyway to run exe files. I created a account for my grandson to play with and asked him to see if he could brake it . No luck so far , it would be a great OS for those who don’t know anything about computers or kids.
