At the Peppermill tonight

Came to the Peppermill just to get out of the house for the weekend , Not too much going on here it fact its kinda not that busy. I’m surprised the weekend before the big game. I took Philly with the winnings from the future bets I made in the beginning of the year. So if they win I can come home with $46 bucks , mister big spender.

One of the reason’s for this post is Dawn is taking a nap and I just needed something to do.It is fun to people watch. Looking at the photos scrolling on the screens here and wishing I was back there Italy and Greece.

Meltdown and Spectre info

Everyone has been hearing about the new Intel and other chips having a vulnerability that could cause you’re computer to be exposed on the internet. Let’s set the record straight, it’s like the post it notes you leave on the desk. If at any one given time someone walk’s in they can see those notes. Same thing with you’re computer, depending on what you have been doing with it in the last few hours that’s what they can see.

Now this can be a problem if you leave you’re computer on 24/7 , if you shut it off after you use it it should be good “depending on what you were doing “. A simple restart  of the computer will clear the cache “sticky notes”.

Well that’s all and good Eric what the hell can I do ? Microsoft and Apple have taken it upon themselves to “patch” these problems and “one” of the two are almost fixed. The fix should already be installed in the computer, came out last week.

The problem is the older you’re computer the slower the fix will make it . I found a way to check the computer to see if it is SAFE and this is where it gets technical. This link will send you to a program that will tell if you are fixed for one of the 2 vulnerability’s like most computers. But it will tell you IF the fix slowed you’re computer down. DON’T trust a email that said we can “fix” you’re computer.

Steve Gibson

The link above is a trusted link to “InSpectre” and a small ( less then 1 MB ) file that will let you know how the patch did on you’re computer. The site should look like this ..

Well I survived

So I went into the hospital for what I thought was just a bottle brush cleaning of the vein in my neck. When I got the bandage off what you see above is what Dawn saw .

The look on Dawns face was OMG I hope he doesn’t explode, and she was very easy on me for a week or so as I healed.  So I found out that after this I was not going back to work for 2 weeks , no one bothered to let me know untill about a week away . I thought I go in and go back to work a few days later. It’s been about 3 weeks now and I’m back to work but the scar wound is still healing and after about 6 hours when the aspirin stops working I get a little cranky.

So I have lost 40 lbs I got my neck slashed and now everyone wants me to quit smoking , this has been a fun week ” I don’t know why Eric is screaming at everyone”. I have quit before and everyone has been giving me advice on how to do it. I had to post on Facebook if anyone gives me more advice I would put out a cigaret in their eye.

More email hosting issues

Moved most some of my sites back to GoDaddy , not sure why when other post’s said I was trying to move away from GoDaddy. I did find out that Microsoft Exchange / email problem went away when I just use Godaddy as a DNS server.

One of the sites that was setup for email worked great on WordPress using exchange I moved the site back to GoDaddy and I couldn’t get Outlook the program to work. I used a “help me fix it” program from Microsoft and it helped a little. Soon as I moved the site back to WordPress and just used GoDaddy to point it everything started working again.

I should have just left well enough alone and stayed with WordPress.
